A Farewell to Torii? Twins face decision...
One of the bigger questions facing Terry Ryan and the Twins front office this offseason will be what to do about Twins legend Torii Hunter. Coming off a year when he hit 22 homers to go with 81 RBIs, Hunter is officially a free agent now that the season is over. According to Betsy Helfand (Oct. 3, 2015) over at MLB.com,"If the Twins had been a last-place team, Hunter said he probably would have announced his retirement two months ago. Now, it's up in the air." Hunter also said about returning in 2016 "They (the Twins) have such a great chance of winning next year, being better than they did this year so do I want to win a World Series? Yes," Hunter said. "I know these guys can win. Do I want to come back? Maybe. There's a chance." (Helfand) Which way would be best for all parties involved? The possibility of a front office or coaching job would certainly be on the table considering Hunter will most assuredly have a statue outside Target Field in the not too distant future.
His stats this past year show he still has something to offer, but with our farm boys finally making the jump to the show, will there be any room? Torii took over in centerfield from whom I consider the best Twins player I've ever seen in Kirby, and now that Byron has been called up, is he ready to take the mantle? Ultimately I think that the Twins make the classy move and let Torii decide what is best for him, his family, and his playing career but if I had my way there would be a Farewell Torii Tour in 2016.
